Prism Accounting – FAQ

Majority of our clients are doctors, dentists and other health professionals. We work with clients across different specialties and at different stages of their career, including doctors in training, salaried specialists, VMO’s, locums, individual practitioners and medical and dental clinics.

We also work with clients in other professional service industries, such as lawyers, engineers, IT specialists, brokers, and consultants.
Prism Accounting is a Chartered Accounting firm and is a holder of Certificate of Public Practice with Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ).

Our principal holds the following qualifications:
– Chartered Accountant (CA), CAANZ
– Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), The Tax Institute
– Registered Tax Agent, Tax Agent Practitioners Board
– Master of Business Law (MBL), University of Sydney
Not all finance professionals are legally allowed to provide financial advice. In order to provide financial product advice, the person must be authorised under an Australian financial services (AFS) licence. We network with other professionals who are AFS licence holders and can refer you to a licenced Financial Adviser.
We are able to provide certain services in relation to Self-Managed Super Fund, including:
– Lodging a tax return
– Providing factual information about your super
– Providing taxation advice

If you need advice regarding SMSF establishment, investment strategies, asset allocation, etc, we may refer you to an adviser holding an AFS licence.
We do offer cloud-based Bookkeeping and BAS Services to our Tax Clients (existing or new) who are using Xero or MYOB on the cloud. Please note, these services are only are only available as second-tier services.
We partner with qualified Bookkeepers to be able to deliver you full range of services while being cost-effective.

All bookkeepers we work with are based in Australia. We do not outsource your bookkeeping overseas.
We can provide assistance with eligibility checks and application for Jobkeeper, State Government Grants and other Covid-19 business support payments. To provide you these services, we require you to be a tax client of Prism Accountant (new or existing).

We are unable to assist you with Centrelink payments applications.

Absolutely! We are able to provide all of our services remotely. We service our clients across Australia.

We communicate through email, phone or Zoom. We are able to work on your cloud accounting software file online if you invite us to access it.

All the documents (e.g. tax return copies, financial statements) will be provided to you in PDF form.
We do offer free initial consultation for eligible new clients. It is a “discovery” meeting, during which we learn about your circumstances, goals and requirements to be understand how we can provide value and offer you a customised solution to address your needs.

In most cases, an appointment will not be necessary to complete your tax return if you have relatively simple tax affairs.

However, we do recommend that to make an appointment for a face-to-face or Zoom discussion if you are a first-time client with more complex tax affairs (business income, significant investments, CGT events, multiple entities).
To give you more flexibility, we offer both, Face-to-Face and online appointments (via Zoom).
Generally, appointments can only be booked withing certain time slots during business hours.

However, we understand that there may be special circumstances that make it impossible for you to attend an appointment during these hours. In this case, we may be able to arrange an after-hours appointment at our absolute discretion.

After-hours appointment may be subject to additional charges.
